It was one of the oldest children who informed the emergency services at around 7 p.m. on Thursday evening. They immediately rushed to the scene and found two apparently lifeless bodies. For the man, in his fifties, no help could be availed. The 45-year-old woman was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition. Two children – the youngest child is 8 years old – still lived with the couple, the other two are of age. They no longer lived with their parents in Kruisveldstraat, a street near the OLV Hospital in Aalst. .
The circumstances were not yet clear at around 11 p.m. “It concerns a couple of Russian origin. Our social team is on site to take care of the children. We are also looking at what measures we need to take towards September 1, because the new school year starts tomorrow for the youngest children,” says Mayor Christoph D’Haese (N-VA) on site to our editors.
