Family A59 who died: ‘Last week the eldest came to chat at school’

School director Hanny Rijkers received an unreal phone call on Saturday morning. The police told her that not only a student from her primary school had died in a traffic accident, but also her brother and parents. “We have protocols at school for the sudden death of children, but not for entire families.”

A complete family, parents (46) son (13) and daughter (10) were killed in a traffic accident on the A59 on Friday evening. The daughter was in group 7 of De Ruif. “We have taken all our emergency measures to accommodate everyone as best as possible on Monday. We take children, parents and teachers into account,” says director Hanny Rijkers.

“The GGD will also be present to help with the processing. We also have a mourning box ready at school that offers handles during the processing. I have previously witnessed a student die at another school, but a whole family is completely incomprehensible Rijkers said.

Good relationship with the teacher
She has been leading the De Ruif child center in Raamsdonksveer for the past three years. This includes primary school as well as out-of-school and toddler care. “The deceased boy was still at our school this week. He had a good relationship with the eighth grade teacher and regularly chatted with her, despite the fact that he was in secondary school in the meantime,” says Rijkers.

Members carnival organization
The fact that the deceased family was in the middle of life is also apparent from the response of Carnivals Organization Raamsdonksveer on social media. Two family members turned out to be council members of this carnival organisation.
