Platforms from all over Spain are concentrated in Madrid to demand more staff in the centers and avoid overcrowding
Relatives of nursing home residents from all over Spain have demonstrated this afternoon in Madrid to demand improvements and a change of model in nursing homes. The State Platform of Organizations of Relatives and Users of Nursing Homes has called the march, in which it has been demanded that the hiring of a nurse for every four residents be guaranteed and that nursing homes do not have more than 60 bedsamong other requests.
The organizers advocate a different plan than the one approved last June by the Government. Among other demands, They ask that the macro-residencies be ended, that more professionals be hired and that more inspections be carried out in the centerstruly public health care, dignified working conditions for staff and the construction of more publicly owned social and health centers.
The promoters of the protest they denounce that “in these centers human rights and fundamental rights are being repeatedly violated & rdquor; of the elders who live in residences. They have also warned that “the labor rights of female workers” are being violated.
