Every good marriage breaks down from time to time. This also applies to a couple from Geldrop who got married on Friday. It didn’t even stop there. Their wedding car, an old-timer Rolls Royce, was a total loss after eighteen meters. What if that’s not an omen?
Back to the beginning: Joost Verberne is a goldsmith in Veldhoven. He also makes wedding rings for couples in love. “If they order their wedding rings from us, they can use one of the seven old-timers that we have for free. That is an extra and it is well received,” says Joost.
This is also the case with the Geldrop couple who got married on Friday morning. “I then deliver the car to the groom and explain how the car works. Then I give a ‘driving lesson’ to the groom.”
“After a ride of eighteen meters, the Rolls Royce came to a stop against a tree.”
And that’s where it went wrong. “The groom was apparently nervous and lost his mind for a moment. He stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake. The car shot forward and rammed into a lamppost that snapped like a matchstick. After a ride of eighteen meters, the Rolls Royce encountered a tree to a stop.”
The damage to the classic car is extensive. Joost fears that the car is a total loss. “We were both quite shocked and still have a lot of muscle pain. The groom had neck complaints and went to the doctor. But it was all okay.”
“It will be insurance work, it was also a big blow.”
The prospective couple then drove their own car to the town hall and got married there. “Then they flew to Italy, where the rest of the wedding is celebrated. The groom did call how I was doing.”
The Rolls Royce was heavily damaged. “That will be insurance work. It was also a big blow. An expert will be coming soon. I now have one less car and September is a busy wedding month. Maybe I have to disappoint someone.”
Joost is not angry. “Absolutely not. He seemed very relaxed, but panicked. That can happen.”
