Shoot

According to residents of the Schutterstraat, the deer have been active for a year. They think the deer can stay here. And firing is the last thing on their minds. Local resident Talissa Schellevis: “They have been walking around here since March 2022.” According to Talissa and her neighbors, the animals sometimes lie in the bushes on Pleiadenplantsoen. There the deer eat, defecate and rest. This is great to see,” says Talissa’s neighbor across the street, who has not lived in the neighborhood for very long.

Service deer

Sjors, who lives on the other side of the neighborhood, regularly sees the deer walking around in groups. Sjors: “It seems that the grass here is greener than where the deer come from.” Together with his colleague, he maintains all the neighborhood’s gardens. “I recently saw father and mother deer with their calves walking around here in the neighborhood. With all those deer in the neighborhood, my colleague and I have to do a lot less work. Those deer eat almost everything that is green,” says Sjors. As far as he is concerned, the deer can stay.

Dangerous

Although the animals provide spectacular images, they also pose a danger on the road at the same time. Talissa: “Sometimes I hold my breath. You shouldn’t drive too fast here when it’s dark, because before you know it you’ll run over one.” She also thinks it is time for warning signs to protect people from accidents. “Because a while back there was an accident around the corner. So that was because of those animals.” Talissa says.

Her neighbor across the street agrees. “Children sometimes play here on the other side of the street. And of course you don’t want dangerous situations to arise.” According to both neighbors, it can and should be made safer in the neighborhood.
