Falling in love thanks to books, dating in the times of BookCity

SI’m talking about a real one speed dating of the book, where everyone wears a sticker with the name and title of their favorite book and gets involved to meet like-minded people. Is titled I can see it in your eyes, like the song written by Sergio Endrigo and sung, among others, by Franco Battiato. And it aims to bring a generation raised on dating apps and virtual love back to real encounters. But also of demonstrate how much books can say about usif a convergence of literary tastes is enough to spark a spark between two people.

Reading recommendations: nine books to read in one sitting

I can see it in your eyes. It’s book speed dating, in the Bookcity era

The initiative, promoted by Bookboy And Nice hostel, was already staged in May in Milan, and was then repeated in Como, Genoa, Florence and Rome. And given the success and active participation of the public, we are already preparing to announce the next tour dates. In the days of Bookcity I can see it in your eyes will take place on Thursday 16th at Ostello Bello Duomo (Via Medici, 4).

The idea of falling in love among books and thanks to books is ultimately itself literary. Just remember how Italo Calvino brings together the Reader and the Reader in a bookshop. He writes down her number in her notebook, with her promise that they will get back to her to comment on the book – the same one – that they both just bought: If a traveler on a winter’s night. But The book and the person who wrote it were jailed also in Dante.

What is certain is that, in the era of apps and social networks, falling in love with the scent of printed paper can prove to be quite transgressive in itself.

Libraccio’s initiatives to introduce (also) Generation Z to reading

But it is not the only event with which Libraccio participates (for the first time) in BookCity 2023. The independent bookshop chain, born as a second-hand market in 1979 in via Corsico, is an institution for the city of Milan, point a reference point for those who love reading but also a meeting place.

A role that it celebrates with initiatives that target Generation Z in particular, intercepting trends and bringing them further closer to reading.

So on Saturday 18th at 3pm, in the little Libraccio shop on the Navigli (Alzaia Naviglio Grande, 26), you can buy the “Leggo Much” shopper to take home all the books that fit in it for free, while stocks last. Because reading – and it has always been Libraccio’s philosophy – must be pleasant, but also accessible. Afterwards, from 3.30pm there will be a snack for participants at Maré, at 67 Ripa di Porta Ticinese, right in front of the bookshop.

Portraits between the lines will take place on Sunday 19th. Anyone who wishes can be immortalized by the photographer Antonio Di Canito with your favorite book in hand (in the bookshop in via Canonica 84). To say, and show, the profound bond that binds us to our readings.
