Singer-songwriter Taylor Swift is said to be furious and considering legal action when so-called deepfake porn images of her began to spread on social media on Thursday.

The AI-generated images of Swift were shared on the X account, which no longer exists. The account is suspected to have collected the images from a website that has collections of fake porn images of various celebrities.

Deepfake refers to fakes that have been produced by combining images or videos with the help of artificial intelligence. Technology has developed rapidly over the past few years, and it can be difficult to distinguish carefully faked images or videos from the real ones.

According to Swift’s close circle, the pop megastar is weighing possible legal action against the site responsible for creating the images.

– Legal action will be decided later, but one thing is clear: these fake images created by artificial intelligence are offensive, offensive, exploitative and were made without Taylor’s consent or knowledge, says a source close to Swift for the Daily Mail.

– Taylor’s family and friends are furious, as are her fans. They have the right to be – every woman should be, go ahead.

X reacts slowly

The photos shared by the X account were viewed more than 45 million times and reposted about 24,000 times before the account was suspended due to violations of the platform’s rules, Verge news.

The images could be visible on X for up to 17 hours before they were deleted.

– It is shocking that the social media platform even allows them to appear there at all, the source says.

X’s representatives or Swift personally have not commented on the matter. X’s rules prohibit the publication of sexual deepfakes.

Legislation lags behind technology

The spread of Swift fakes has sparked a fierce debate about the shortcomings of the regulation of artificial intelligence tools, also at a general level.

– Taylor Swift artificial intelligence porn is disgusting, but so is all other deepfake porn found on the internet. It needs to be regulated because it is done without consent, one X user thinks.

It is unclear what legal action Swift could take. In the United States, AI legislation varies from state to state. The issue is also influenced by whether Swift would sue the website sharing the images, X or the user behind the X account.

Non-consensual AI porn has been defined as illegal in at least Texas, Minnesota, New York, Hawaii and Georgia.

According to the New York Post last week, members of the House of Representatives To Joseph More (Democrat) and Tom Kean (Republican) introduced a bill that would make it illegal at the federal level to share artificially generated pornographic images. The punishment could be imprisonment, fines or both.

The bill has advanced to the Judiciary Committee of the House of Representatives, but it has not yet made a decision on its approval.

In addition to criminal penalties, the proposed law change by Morelle and Kean would give victims the opportunity to sue the people who distribute deepfakes in civil court.
