Maxi Jazz is dead. The musician, who became known as the singer and founding member of the British band Faithless, died on December 23, 2022 at the age of 65.
Statement from the band
The group announced the musician’s death on their social channels. “We are heartbroken that Maxi Jazz passed away peacefully in his sleep last night. He was a man who changed our lives in so many ways. He gave our music a real meaning and a message. He was a lovely human being who had time for everyone and a wisdom that was both profound and accessible,” the statement said.

Faithless member Sister Bliss paid tribute to the musician in another post. “Maxi Jazz 1957 – 2022. We are heartbroken that Maxi passed away peacefully in her sleep last night. Sending our love to everyone who has shared our musical journey. Take care, you hear,” she writes.

Maxi Jazz was born Maxwell Alexander Fraser on June 14, 1957 in Brixton, London. He got his start in the 1980s as a DJ on The Soul Food Cafe System project. Faithless were formed in 1995 – a year later the debut album “Reverence” was released, with which the band became internationally known. Most recently, Maxi Jazz released the album “Commotion” in 2022 — together with the Brazilian DJ and producer Vintage Culture.
