A major renovation awaits the tenants of dozens of rental properties in the Koedijkslanden in Meppel. Housing corporation Housing Concept left their homes in March Stutten. Now it is clear that the front, rear and side walls must be replaced.

The residents have recently been updated on the state of affairs. “It appears that in a number of homes in this neighborhood the facade of such poor quality is that we have to replace it,” says Marcel van Halteren, director of Woonconcept. It can take a while before the work starts. The work is expected to start the work in January.

“We would really like to start earlier,” says Van Halteren. “A normal renovation of a home has been demanding for two or three years. We are also dealing with flora and fauna legislation here. Then we have to take bats and birds that are in the facade and under roof. So if we can start in January 2026, that is actually very quickly.”

At the same time as replacing the facades, the houses are also better insulated and refurbished. “If we are there, we will go forward a number of activities that we would do in the coming years. That means that we will improve the roof, that there are no more leaks, that we will replace only glass and old double glass.” There are also new front doors. “That should lead to better living comfort.”

Most of the residents of corner houses who have been stuck, who spoke RTV Drenthe, are happy with the plans. “What are you doing about it? It will only get better,” says a resident. “In the winter it is here, in the summer it is warm here. With these plans we will only heat less. That is beneficial,” says another resident. The fact that they have been sitting on their home for a little longer, most does not bother. “You don’t see it inside,” says a resident.
