“I’ve had experiences I never thought I’d ever come close to having,” Fàbregas wrote. He was “very sad that the time has come to hang up my football boots”. Among other things, it said: “After 20 incredible years full of sacrifice, dedication and joy, it is time to say thank you and say goodbye to beautiful football.” He “loved every minute”.

Fàbregas made 17 appearances in his only season with Como, in which he contributed two assists. He played by far the most games for Arsenal, for whom he played 303 times (57 goals/95 assists). In 2010 he also reached his highest market value of 55 million euros with the “Gunners”, which he later held again at Barça. The Blaugrana provided Fàbregas’ most expensive transfer back in 2011 when he arrived from London for €34m. In addition to successes at club level, including numerous title wins, he has played 110 times for Spain, which is surpassed by eight players. With the “Furia Roja” he won the 2010 World Championship and in 2008 and 2012 the European Championship.

It is no surprise that Fàbregas will be on the sidelines in the future. Before moving to Como, it was said that he wanted to gain experience in Italy and start his coaching career there. “A club and a project I couldn’t look forward to anymore. This charming football team captured my heart from the first minute and came at the perfect time in my career,” he wrote about the new challenge.
