Milan in mourning. At the age of 89, Fabio Cudicini, the legendary Black Spider who was the protagonist, among other feats, of winning the club’s first Intercontinental Cup, passed away at the age of 89.

career

Born in Trieste on 20 October 1935, Cudicini grew up in Udinese’s youth team and then moved to Roma, with whom he won the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in 1961, as well as an Italian Cup in 1964. Nereo Rocco took him to Milan in 1967, despite the skepticism of those who believed he was now in a downward spiral, and instead the Black Spider (“Black Spider”, as he was renamed by the British press after two great performances in Glasgow and Manchester) will be decisive for winning a scudetto, an Italian Cup, a Champions Cup, a Cup Winners’ Cup and the first Intercontinental, in 1969.

Compared precisely to the legendary Lev Jascin, also due to the black suit, he was gifted with a slender physique (in Rome due to his 191 cm he was nicknamed ‘Pennellone’), essential in interventions but not very spectacular, Cudicini entered the history of Milan also as a saver penalties. He holds an unbeaten record at the San Siro of 1132 minutes which still stands today. Son of Mino, goalkeeper for Triestina, he was the father of Carlo, also a goalkeeper born in 1973 with a past at Chelsea.
