Fabian Tablado He was denounced once again and his case revealed the limits of criminal law when it comes to talking about femicides. the killer of Carolina Hello he served his sentence: he spent twenty-three years, nine months and one day in prison. In prison he studied, became a pastor and even took courses on gender violence. However, none of this was a guarantee for his social reintegration.
Platform He had regained his freedom in February 2020, but shortly after he had to return to prison for another year for violating the perimeter fences he had with the family of Hello. In addition, he was denounced by all the partners he had while he was in jail and, also, by the woman with whom he had his two daughters.
In December 2021 he settled in Bell Ville, Córdoba, in the house of his last girlfriend, Yanina. The neighbors always mistrusted him. However, recently they began to hear fights and discussions. The level of conflict escalated until on July 29 they filed a complaint. The prosecutor who intervened Nicholas Gambiniordered the restriction of Tablado’s approach to the young woman and also assigned police custody at the home.
However, the story did not end there. The young woman decided to go out in the media and defended Platform. He said that they have not been in a relationship for three months, but that the man continued to live in his house because they loved each other and that his parents loved him as if he were his own son.
“The girl does not report out of fear,” he assured NEWS Edgardo HelloCaroline’s father. Since his daughter was murdered, he was in charge of monitoring that Tablado served his sentence accordingly. In addition, he created the Carolina Aló Foundation, which is dedicated to the prevention of gender violence. When the femicide of his daughter settled in Bell Ville, the same neighbors began to contact him to tell him what they knew. “I spoke with the people who denounced. Many do not want to get involved because they are suspicious about how he can react, ”he added.
Distrust. “The case makes it clear that criminal law has limits. Our Constitution says that prisons are not for punishment, but for people to have a place in society again. But when we look at the recidivism figures, we see that incarceration does not do it. Far from resocializing, prisons deepen conflicts,” the lawyer assured NOTICIAS Sabrina Cartabia.
The complexity of gender violence and the difficulties that the Law has to solve these problems were made evident in this case as never before. In the last four psychological tests carried out on Platform, it was shown that man is far from having solved his problems. The studies correspond to April 2018, December 2018, November 2019 and February 2020. None of these studies were binding and his release was imminent due to the simple fact that his sentence had been exhausted.
Although the original sentence ended at the end of 2022, thanks to the benefit of the repealed “2×1” law, to the courses he took in prison as an “educational stimulus” and to a conduct that the Penitentiary Service rated with a 10 year after year, got his sentence reduced by just over two years.
The news of the complaint in Bell Ville put all eyes on him and, after years of silence, Platform spoke to the media. “I paid before the Justice and I try to live as a free citizen. I have the right to rebuild my life. Somewhere I have to live, or else they put the death penalty for people like me, ”she declared. Tablado only made reference -without naming it- to Carolina Hello and he said nothing about the other complaints that were filed against him: “I took a course on violence in prison and now I am taking an online course on gender violence at the University of Córdoba. If in the 1990s there had been the information and visualization of gender and femicide that there is today, I would not have committed any crime.
For Edgardo Hello, these statements are nothing more than empty words: “After Carolina there were three more complaints. The mother of her twins claimed that he threatened her and her mother; when he was in Unit 9 of La Plata he was dating another girl who later said that he tried to kill her by sticking a light bulb into her neck. Another young woman from Baradero said the same thing. She didn’t change anything and on top of that now she says that she took courses. How? Do you need the State to tell you that you don’t have to kill in order not to do it?” the man launched.
Carthage understood Aló’s argument and maintained: “There is an overestimation of the pedagogical tool. But it is not about doing one or several courses and there is a lot of literature that tells you that the pedagogical tool alone is not going to change behavior, that there has to be a set of actions, ”he said. However, she left open the question that reveals society: “Life imprisonment does not exist in our country and we should ask ourselves if that is what we want, because it would speak of a profound social failure. What must be done is to think of concrete actions with responsibility and that can go beyond jail as the only solution”, he concluded.
