Without wanting to condone anything Mitrovic has done here. The action was stupid and remains so. Everything has been said about that. But the penalty is grotesquely excessive – and the FA would now even like to extend it. To make an example of Mitrovic, for whom it was the first red card in more than 200 games for Fulham, and to frame him as a very, very bad guy, is as pathetic as – unfortunately – predictable. You can do it with a small club like Fulham, which doesn’t have a significant lobby. When it comes to the big ones, the FA likes to look the other way. The example of Fernandes has already been mentioned.
It would be nice if the money coming in from the penalties could buy Mr. Kavanagh some decent glasses. Then the man might see something again.
Eight games, possibly more. Dear me, what a circus.
