F1 will return to Las Vegas in 2023

Forty-one years later the F1 will return in 2023 to Las Vegas with a night race in November on a street circuit of 6,120 meters with 14 curves in which a maximum speed of 342 km/h will be reached and 50 laps will be given, the highest category of motorsport announced this Thursday in a statement issued during the European dawn.

With the addition of the Las Vegas Strip race between hotels and casinos, United States will have three races of Formula One from next year, together with those of Miami and Austin (Texas), with the aim of expand the fan base to motor sport.

With a view to audiences around the world, the Las Vegas race will start on Saturday, according to local time, which in Europe will be early Sunday morning and in Asia the Sunday morning session.

Championship Growth

“This is an incredible moment for F1, which demonstrates the enormous appeal and growth of our sport with a third race in the United States,” Italian F1 CEO and President Stefano Domenicali said in the statement. “Las Vegas – he added – is a destination known around the world for its excitement, its hospitality and, of course the famous Strip. There is no better place for Formula One than the entertainment capital of the world.”

Steve Hill, President and CEO of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA), spoke of “the moment when the history, energy and momentum of Formula 1 culminate in an unforgettable Saturday night on the Las Vegas Strip” .

The last time Formula One was in Las Vegas was in 1982, at the season-ending 75-lap race around Caesar Palace. The winner was the Italian Michele Alboreto (Tyrrel-Ford), who obtained his first victory on the circuit.
