F1 announces a significant change regarding the next season’s race calendar. The sprint races, which made their debut last year, will also be included in the next season and more often.

Sprint races should be run up to six times instead of three next year. The mini-race run on Saturdays has gathered a lot of opponents and has been described as a demonstration event where the risks are few and the competition more boring. On the other hand, some fans have enjoyed the most action-packed weekends.

The results of the sprint race will determine the starting order on Sunday. The best eight of the race also receive series points, which are hoped to encourage the teams to drive more courageously.

F1 stays in line and relies on the success of the sprint races.

– Sprints bring more action, drama and excitement when the drivers get something to fight for, from Friday’s qualifying to Sunday’s main race, F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali says in the announcement.

The addition of smaller races to the already record-breaking race calendar creates more work for teams and drivers. Not to mention the costs of the sport, which the stables have struggled with. Next year there will be 24 F1 race weekends, which means that the checkered flag including sprint races will be waved a total of 30 times.

F1 has not yet revealed the timings of next season’s sprint races.
