The Thai Williams driver has auctioned his helmet with the livery designed by the children of the Wat Sakreo centre. The sum will be used to improve the centre’s facilities: “I wanted to do good for my community”

Alexander Albon made his 2022 truly special. He did it in F1, returning after a year as the third Red Bull driver. Four points won at the wheel of the Williams. But it is above all off the track that the Thai rider – born in London – has given the best of himself, as demonstrated by the initiative together with the Wat Sakraeo orphanage in his country. The children of this structure had designed the livery of the helmet worn by Albon himself in Singapore. The accessory then ended up at auction for a sensational 84,075 pounds (over 98,000 euros), all well spent by Alexander.

In fact, the entire sum was destined for the orphanage in order to improve the living conditions of the 2,000 children present. Priority will be given to the construction of a sports hall and other facilities. Definitely satisfied Albon: “Since 2022 was the year of my return to Formula 1, I wanted to use my platform to do good and give something back to the Thai community”. A gesture not obvious even for the circumstances that had affected Albon. In fact, he had been forced to miss the Italian GP due to appendicitis. The motivation to get on track in Singapore, however, was too high.

The link between Albon and this orphanage is recent, but it quickly became very solid. Suffice it to say that Alexander had been sporting his kid-dyed red hair for several rounds. The discovery of the center took place thanks to Volker Capito, brother of Jost, team principal of Williams. Volker himself has been taking care of the structure for 17 years thanks to the “Iceman Charity” foundation. Initiatives with a far greater weight than a victory.
