Imola evokes triumphs and tragedies in F1. Forty years ago the friendship between Ferrari drivers Gilles Villeneuve and Didier Pironi ended, while almost thirty years have passed since the death of Ayrton Senna. The Brazilian, three times world champion, died after the crash at the Tamburello curve on May 1, 1994. A special art car was created in view of the GP of Emilia Romagna, scheduled right on the Italian circuit: an F1 car divided between street art and old style liveries. And in addition to the Senna tribute, there is also a charity initiative.

the project

Celebrating the myth of Ayrton and assisting others are the aims of the “Senna now” project. The car, a McLaren showcar donated by the Italian collector Gianluca Tramonti, was split lengthwise into two parts. The right side is in turn divided into three parts with the liveries of three of the four cars driven by the champion in F1: Lotus, Williams and McLaren. The left side, on the other hand, was entrusted to the French artist Jisbar. The green-gold helmet, symbol of Ayrton, stands out together with three trophies, as many as the world championship laurels: “Senna is a memory of my childhood. I remember my father who attended the duels with Alain Prost ”. The art car will be exhibited at the Ayrton Senna museum in Imola and will also appear in Miami and Monaco, before being auctioned at the end of the year. Part of the proceeds will be donated to the foundation that bears the name of the champion of San Paolo.

the idea

The initiative bears the signature of Matteo Macchiavelli. The Italian designer was a big fan of Senna. These are the words of him reported by Motorsport.com: “I spent my childhood following the races and the magic of my hero. I was inspired by his lifestyle and his teachings ”. Hence the idea of contacting the French artist Jisbar and giving life to an art car: “Ayrton Senna’s charisma, his personality, all the challenges he had to face and his humanity inspired me to the point of wanting to create something that could bring out some aspects of his special message: challenge, creativity and humanity “.
