Ezio Bosso – The things that remain: the doc on first tv on Rai 3

TO two years after the untimely death – due to a neurodegenerative disease – this evening it will be broadcast on the first tv at 9.15 pm on Rai 3 Ezio Bosso – The things that remain. Documentary dedicated to great pianist and conductor.

Presented last year at the Venice Film Festivalthe film focuses onpersonal and musical evolution of the musician. Afflicted, since 2011, by a terrible pathology, similar to SLA, which partially compromised his career. But Ezio’s passion for the seven notes was able to overcome, with strength and courage, too the limits imposed from the disease.

At the heart of the documentary, directed by Giorgio Verdelli, is there the career and life of Ezio Bossoa bumpy but fascinating path where love for musiclived as a discipline and a reason for living, has always been at the center of his thoughts.

The story is entrusted to the voice of Bosso himselfby collecting and lining up reflections, interviews and thoughts in a stream of consciousness that reveals itself and lets us enter its world. Like in a secret diary that is finally open.

The artist’s words alternate with his second voice, music, and at testimonials from friends, family and collaborators which help to trace an accurate and precise mosaic of his years as a musician and conductor.

Among the many friends of Ezio who wanted to participate in the doc: Gabriele Salvatores – for which Bosso has collaborated for ten years writing the soundtracks of his films -, Silvio Orlando and the jazzman Paolo Fresu.

In the movie, also an unreleased track by title The Things That Remain. Carrier of a powerful motivational message in his life and in his music, Ezio Bosso, as the director declared at the Venice Film Festival, “It has been and will always be a source of inspiration for anyone who approaches it, a constant presence and not a memory ».

Ezio’s story

Born in Turin in 1971, Ezio has been passionate about music since he was a kid. In his teenage years he studied at the Conservatory and plays bass in the Statutesa ska-punk band that will become one of the most popular on the independent circuit in the 90s.

In parallel, he made his debut as a solo pianist at just 16 years old in France and from there he started working for numerous orchestras around Europe.

The turning point of his life comes thanks to the meeting with the teacher Ludwig Strecher, which leads him to study composition and conducting in Vienna. Also pupil of the great Claudio Abbado, Ezio worked for decades as a pianist, composer and conductor. Until one terrible day of 2011 when he finds out he has a neurodegenerative disease.

However, the disease does not stop his desire to make music. In 2013 she collaborates with the cellist Mario Brunello while the following year she has the privilege of playing with London Symphony Orchestra and to know the violinist Sergej Krylovwhich immediately becomes a new artistic partner.

On October 30th 2015 comes the first solo album, The 12th Roomwhich Bosso will present on the stage of the Sanremo Festivalplaying Following a Bird. Thanks to the popularity derived from his participation, the musician is finally recognized also by the general public.

But unfortunately, in 2019, Ezio stops playing the pianodue to the loss of hand control, and the year after he disappears at the age of 48 in his home in Bologna. Leaving an unbridgeable void.
