Extremely businesslike Telstar takes three points from Utrecht

On a visit to Jong FC Utrecht, Telstar took full advantage. In a mediocre duel from both sides, a dry blast from Tom Overtoom turned out to be enough for the win: 0-1. Because of the victory, Telstar is in a shared eighth place in the first division with Jong AZ.

Telstar wanted to give a good result to the good victory over De Graafschap, a week and a half ago. Trainer Mike Snoei had expected it to be difficult to play on the field at Jong Utrecht and that prediction came true. Before the break, the White Lions had much more ball possession, but did not do enough with it.

Utrecht even had the best chances. For example, an opportunity by Mees Rijks was just averted by Ronald Koeman Jr. Moments later, a bet by the home team was nipped in the bud. Telstar got no further than a free kick from Tom Overtoom, who went wide in two instances.

In the second half, Overtoom was quickly the man who made the Telstar supporters who traveled along cheer. The midfielder shot the ball behind Fabian de Keijzer with a dry bang: 0-1. It was the visitors’ first shot on target. There was just as little spectacle after the break as before.

Mike Snoei tried to break the negative balance in the final phase by substituting Glynor Plet for David Min. Koen Blommestijn was back in the selection for the first time, but did not get any playing minutes. Utrecht created virtually nothing and yet it came out dangerous just before time. A hard long shot was catapulted out by Koeman. The four minutes of injury time was then played out in a businesslike way.

Because of the three-pointer, Telstar is in a shared eighth place with Young AZ. Jong PSV is the next opponent on Friday. Kick-off is at 8 p.m.
