The fourth season of Extreme E is upon us. We start as usual in Saudi Arabia, north of Jeddah this time, on a new route, in Khulais, which will host the two days of challenges on 17 and 18 February. There are many new features in the championship, especially for the teams. New names, movements, abandonments and new arrivals therefore. First of all, who is leaving: four important departures, that of season among other things with the unfortunate Kyle Leduc, who passed away last summer and the Carl Cox team which is already anticipating his return in 2025 with the hydrogen Odyssey 21. ABT Cupra will also not be at the start and thus of the ten teams for 2023 only six remain.

the new arrivals

Then there are the new arrivals. For four teams that leave, one instead enters the Series and it is the Sun Minimeal Team, supported by the Swiss food producer Sun AG, and this new entry is not accidental given how the commitment of the Swiss aims to underline, in accordance with the ExE’s green and eco-sustainable guidelines, the importance of global resources in nutrition and food waste. Inside the cockpit Timo Scheider and Klara Andersson recovered by the Carl Cox and ABT Cupra team. A last-minute surprise comes from the Odyssey number 84, from Jimmie Johnson’s Legacy Motor Club which will see Travis Pastrana and Gray Leadbetter at the wheel: Extreme E therefore loses Tanner Foust but finds another American protagonist of the XGames and many extreme sports. Pastrana, born in 1983, motorcycle champion, has won the , NRX also dealing in the past with the late, Ken Block. However, Pastrana, busy with the Daytona 500, will alternate in the left seat with Johnson, the seven-time winner of the Nascar SCS title – five of them consecutively – who in the past was also part of Chip Ganassi’s team.

the confirmations

Nico Rosberg’s team confirms their presence at the start of the 2024 season, RXR always with the same team, winner of two titles, Johann Kristoffersson and Mikaela Kottulinsky, Acciona Carlos Sainz with Laia Sanz and Fraser McConnell, the Jamaican previously in force in X44, and McLaren completely revolutionizes the crew by calling Mattias Ekstrom – ex Acciona – and Cristina Gutierrez, ex X44. America is still represented by the Andretti Altawkilat team which confirms its trust in Timmy Hansen and Catie Munnings and the same does also Veloce which once again fields Kevin Hansen and Molly Taylor. Finally JBXE, by Jenson Button brings Andreas Bakkerud back to Extreme E but alongside him places Dania Akeel, a Saudi driver specialized in rally raids and already seen several times at the Dakar and in the specialty world championship with an SSV. Akeel recently raced the Baja Hail behind the wheel of an official Toyota Overdrive and will be the first Saudi to join the ExE family.

the calendar

The 2024 calendar opens in Saudi Arabia and will then continue with three and September 15th and the following weekend, 21st and 22nd while the championship will end in Arizona, in Phoenix, on November 23rd and 24th and will be the first time the Series has played in the United States.
