Extreme collecting rage turns rental property into a landfill: ‘I trusted those people’

The dishes are piling up, clothes are lying around the house, boxes and rubbish almost block the entrance. And don’t forget about the feces on the floor. It’s not a sight.

Owner Joost is at a loss as he makes his way through the filth. “You see traces of dogs: scratches on the windows. However, the rental contract states that they were not allowed to keep pets.”

Not paid

The tenants had not paid for seven months. After a whole procedure, they were evicted this week. The bailiff has already taken the most valuable items with him, but Joost is left with the extreme mess.

“That is a violation of my trust in those people,” says Joost. “I don’t get help anywhere. I begged the OCMW, but I don’t get any help there either,” he says emotionally.

justice of the peace

The landlord hopes that the city services will send another container to take away the garbage. But according to interest group for real estate owners, United Owners, the city is not obliged to do so.

The only thing Joost can do is ask the justice of the peace for an expert to come and make his findings, but that is also at his expense.
