‘Extra training for motorcyclists is important’

This organization provides such training in collaboration with experienced driving instructors. With us that is in Poperinge and in Gullegem. Last weekend a motorcyclist was killed in Vlamertinge and a few were also injured in our province.

“People have their driver’s license, but then they immediately assume that their driving style is okay, while they could actually improve it a bit,” says driving instructor Hervé Bultinck of the Kortrijkse Rijschool. “Very often they will not adjust their speed to the circumstances, while that is very important with the engine.”

“As a motorcyclist, make sure you recognize the risks, make sure you keep riding in a safe situation,” Hervé advises. “Try to control your bike well, not only at low speed, but also at high speed. But don’t take risks.”

Assess risks

And to be able to better assess those risks, there is the Ready to Ride training. Very often a revelation, even for experienced motorcyclists.

In the coming weeks there will be a Ready to Ride course all over Flanders, in collaboration with the Flemish Foundation for Traffic Science. And there is interest in that: the session with the Kortrijkse Rijschool in Gullegem next weekend is fully booked.
