The Brainport region Eindhoven expects further strong growth of economic activities in the coming years. This requires more than 70,000 jobs, 60,000 homes, new and improved existing railway lines, roads and cycle paths. The cabinet and the Brainport region (province, municipalities, companies, knowledge institutions) today announced that they will invest almost 1.6 billion euros in accessibility until 2030.
North Brabant, with the Brainport region as an innovative center, accounts for almost a quarter of Dutch expenditure on research and development every year. In the coming years, companies, knowledge institutes and governments will be making extra investments in this region, for example in innovative high-tech (manufacturing) industry and digital technologies. These growth opportunities also improve the global knowledge position of the Netherlands and the European Union. It also reduces dependence on technologies and raw materials from third countries.
Minister Micky Adriaansens (Economic Affairs and Climate): “The cabinet has set great ambitions to strengthen our economy. We do this, for example, by investing more than ever in collaboration with regions and companies in innovation, high-tech, sustainability and digitization of the industry. But without accessibility, entrepreneurs cannot get to work. The investments in the Dutch infrastructure that have now been announced will make those economic growth opportunities and employment possible in the long term. Certainly there where the great opportunities lie, such as in the Brainport region of Eindhoven.”
In the coalition agreement, the cabinet has released 7.5 billion euros to make new residential areas accessible. Today, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management has set out how the national government, together with provinces and municipalities, will invest in the Multi-year Program for Infrastructure, Spatial Planning and Transport (MIRT).
