Extra security Tynaarlo town hall after threat with firearm

At the beginning of this year, the town hall in Vries was extra secured for a month by an external security agency. The reason was a threat from a man who is legally at odds with the municipality of Tynaarlo about a caravan site in Zuidlaren.

The man and his wife have been interested for some time in a vacant caravan site on the Wam in Zuidlaren. Proceedings from the municipality were a stumbling block for the couple to qualify for that place and that led to a court case. During the legal jousting, the man would have made threats to the municipality against an employee of a discrimination hotline that assists the couple.

The threat reached the municipality via the police, says a spokesman for the municipality in response to reports of the Newspaper of the North. The man would have threatened to storm into the town hall shooting if he did not get a place for a caravan.

Reason for the municipality to have the town hall secured for a few extra weeks. A report has also been filed against the man and he received an area ban. He must report to the court at the beginning of April.
