The municipality of Westerveld is working on a plan to receive an additional 55 asylum seekers in its municipality. Mayor Rikus Jager reports this to the city council tonight.
The number of reception places is in addition to the 115 asylum seekers who are currently already being accommodated in the municipality. Forty of them have recently moved to De Noordster holiday park in Dwingeloo. With this, the Westerveld municipality has taken care of a large number of shelters.
“I am not mentioning places at the moment, but talks are underway and it looks hopeful that we can accommodate 55 more asylum seekers,” explains Jager. “It is possible that all that will still be possible before November 1st.”
This brings the municipality to a total of 170 reception places. And that also has consequences for the facilities in the villages. “The number of children who are now registered for schools is almost twenty. That means that almost two classes have to be added and we run into problems with staff. We will have to be careful with that.”
Nevertheless, the mayor calls it a positive development in the municipality. “Because it is largely realized without us having to open an asylum seekers center, but it is possible thanks to private initiative.”
