To put Meppel on the national map, the city council is allocating 166,000 euros. The promotion should attract companies to Meppel, but also ensure extra visitors to the city and its facilities such as a swimming pool or theater.
The Merk Meppel foundation carries out the promotion. So far, this promotion has mainly focused on Meppel residents themselves. Merk Meppel does this for 48,000 euros per year. Now that the step outside has to be taken, the foundation wants extra money for this: 166,000 euros.
“That promotion is not necessary for a Thursday Meppel Day, but it is for the little ones,” says mayor Richard Korteland. “That not only a class from Meppel visits the Printing Museum, for example, but also classes from the rest of the Netherlands.”
The various sectors, such as education, culture or business, turn to Merk Meppel to help with marketing for events, for example. Korteland points to an event from last year, celebrating 600 years of the Grote Kerk. “The church worked together with Puppet International and museums. This would never have been possible without Merk Meppel.”
