From next week, 36,000 residents of the earthquake area, including in the Drenthe-Groningen border area and around the gas storage in Norg, will receive extra money from the Institute for Mining Damage Groningen (IMG).
This concerns residents who have received compensation for non-material damage, or have applied for this compensation in the past. They can count on an amount between 1,500 and 5,000 euros per person.
Earlier this year, the claims desk announced that it would expand the scheme for non-material damage. It is compensation for all suffering, stress and sorrow caused by the consequences of gas extraction, also known as compensation for damages. In short: no compensation for tears, but for people.
The scheme has fixed amounts. Residents receive 1,500, 3,000 or 5,000 euros per person. The more damage a resident has suffered or the longer a resident has had to wait for a decision, the more money they receive.
The claims desk will now equalize the reimbursements within a household. For example, if you received 3,000 euros, but your husband received 5,000 euros, then you are now also entitled to 5,000 euros. The additional money will be transferred sometime in the coming weeks.
Residents affected by the reinforcement will also automatically receive the highest compensation. If your house is assessed as unsafe and needs to be reinforced or demolished, you will receive 5,000 euros. You will receive this amount even if relatively few measures are required.
