Germany will introduce an additional tax on gas from October. It will cost an average family of four about 500 euros a year. The German energy regulator also says that consumption must be reduced by a fifth to prevent shortages in the winter. “A realistically achievable savings for families is about 15 percent,” says Moritz Kuhn, professor at the Faculty of Economics at the University of Bonn.
