From Saturday 26 March, people aged 60 to 69 will also have the opportunity to get an extra corona vaccination by appointment. This repeat jab is possible three months after the last corona jab or a previous infection. Minister Kuipers of Health, Welfare and Sport writes this to the House of Representatives in response to the Health Council’s advice on this. Previously, the repeat shot was offered to people aged 70 and older, residents of nursing homes, adults with Down syndrome and adults with a severe immune disorder.
The number of infections and hospitalizations as a result of the corona virus is currently increasing mainly among people between the ages of 60 and 69. In addition, the protection of the first booster vaccination slowly decreases. Therefore, as a precautionary measure, a repeat injection can now be obtained by appointment to maintain protection against serious illness and hospitalization.
The Health Council does not recommend a repeat shot for people under the age of 60. For the time being, this group is still well protected against serious illness.
Vaccinations
In order to restore the effectiveness of the basic series (the first and second vaccination), all adults have been invited in recent months for an extra vaccination, the booster vaccination. The extra shots that follow are called ‘repeat vaccination against corona’. The repeat injection ensures that the protection against the virus is maintained. The advice of the Health Council is to only give this repeat shot to people where the risk of serious illness or even death from corona is greatest.
Invitations and start vaccinations
People aged 60 to 69 years are eligible for the repeat shot three months after the last vaccination or infection. From 26 March they can make an appointment online at the GGD and the first injections can be taken. RIVM will also shortly send this group an invitation by letter, with which they can make an appointment by telephone.
