The action group Extinction Rebellion Drenthe took action today at the city hall in Assen to draw attention to the climate crisis. They handed over a climate clock to alderman Martin Rasker and sounded the so-called climate alarm.
‘The climate clock is ticking’, ‘act now’ and ‘time is up’. Those words are on banners with which twenty activists of Extinction Rebellion Drenthe drew attention to the climate this afternoon. Between them stood a wooden clock that is slowly counting down, showing how long we have left to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees. The counter is at 7 years and 18 days.
“We are here today because we want to make ourselves heard as concerned citizens. We are not here for ourselves, but for all people from Assen and Drenthe, because the climate crisis is much more serious than we actually think,” says spokesperson for the action group Conny Darwinkel .
Extinction Rebellion is an international activist movement that opposes climate change and the loss of biodiversity. The Drenthe group was founded at the end of 2021, which includes people from Assen, Emmen and Tynaarlo.
