The climate protection movement “Extinction Rebellion” blocked a busy intersection in Berlin’s Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district on Saturday afternoon.
With around 350 people, the streets around the Schlesisches Tor were paralyzed, the climate protection movement said. The unregistered action should be the prelude to the days of action by “Extinction Rebellion” announced until September 20th, it said.
The movement had already announced new blockades and disruptive actions in the Berlin government district on Thursday. The climate protectionists explained that this was intended to rebel against the impending gas crisis and to demonstrate for a quick exit from fossil fuels.
In the past, “Extinction Rebellion” has already attracted attention with occupations of the CDU economic council, the blockade of airports, art actions or the blockade of ministries and streets in Berlin. Within the climate protection movement, the “Extinction Rebellion” can be located between “Fridays for Future” and the radical climate protectionists of the “last generation”.
