A fire broke out in a house on De Breistroeken in Nieuw-Balinge this afternoon around 13:00 due to an unknown cause. The fire has spread, with the entire top floor being affected by the flames. According to a spokesperson for the Drenthe Safety Region, there are no people in the home (anymore).
Partly because of the place where the fire is raging – a former bungalow park that is now a residential area – the fire service is calling on the curious and local residents to leave access roads free for the emergency services.
Around 1:50 p.m., the fire brigade scaled up to a very large fire. Fire crews from Beilen, Hoogeveen, Zwinderen, de Wijk, Zweeloo and Westerbork, among others, are on site to fight the fire.
