Extension as a sign to FC Bayern? Hoeneß reacts

On Friday, VfB Stuttgart announced Sebastian Hoeneß’s extension. The coach left it open whether the Swabians wanted to send a signal to FC Bayern.

“You would have to ask VfB that,” replied Hoeneß on “DAZN” when asked whether the timing of his extension was related to FC Bayern’s alleged interest.

“It was relatively clear to me that if we found a consensus, I wanted to do it. The discussions quickly showed that we were thinking in the same direction,” added Hoeneß and emphasized: “I don’t think we allowed ourselves to be pushed along “And yet it’s good and important for me for the final phase that there’s a little more peace and quiet and I can put my full focus on the last important games. You can’t separate them all completely independently.”

“It has to be good at some point”

But Hoeneß doesn’t want to give in to the “illusion” that the speculation will now stop completely. “The signal is clear and that’s why there won’t be much to talk about anymore. At some point it has to be good,” the 41-year-old demanded.

VfB Stuttgart and Hoeneß have extended the contract, which was originally dated until 2025, until the summer of 2027.

The nephew of Bayern patron Uli Hoeneß took over the Swabians in April 2023 during a serious crisis, managed to stay in the league and then led the club to the Champions League ranks of the Bundesliga.

Hoeneß did not want to reveal whether a clause was anchored in his new working paper.

“If you’ve listened to my press conferences in the past, you know that I don’t talk about contractual content,” he clarified. However, the Munich native let it be known: “If I were really thinking about changing in the summer, I probably wouldn’t have extended the contract now.”
