Extended weekend already passed for coast

For the entire weekend, most coastal hotels can present an occupancy rate of 95 percent. The campsites and holiday homes were also almost all occupied. From Wednesday evening to Saturday night, Westtoer has approximately one million overnight stays. In the traditionally popular extended weekend around the national holiday, the night from Saturday to Sunday was the most coveted by visitors.

After two difficult corona years, more foreign tourists came to the coast again. The number of bookings by non-Belgian guests doubled compared to the same period last year. One in four was done by foreigners. In addition, an estimated 340,000 day tourists found their way to the sea over four days.

It was already busy on the coast before the extended weekend. Monday night, the night between the two sweltering days, also achieved an occupancy rate of 95 percent. Some of the visitors extended their planned weekend for a few more nights. For the past week, the number of overnight stays is 1.7 million.

“The fact that so many people booked a stay on the coast last extended weekend, and also the days before, indicates that tourists from home and abroad see the coast during the summer as the ideal place to enjoy an extensive and extra long stay” , says Liesbet Billiet van Westtoer.
