Extended manufacturer responsibility for textiles applies from July

It’s official: the extended producer responsibility for textiles comes into effect on July 1st, the Dutch retail association Inretail reports on Monday.

The new law makes the clothing and textile sector responsible for the collection and recycling of all clothing and linen that they sell in the Netherlands.

This means that the textile manufacturers and importers have to organize and finance a suitable collection system. You have to monitor how many textiles are sold on the Dutch market and how much textile waste is collected.

The news was announced a week ago, but was not official at the time. State Secretary Vivianne Heijnen changed this on April 21 with the publication in the State Gazette.

The law was originally supposed to come into effect in January. At that time, the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management did not complete the legislative process in time.
