Express appoints Stewart Glendinning as CEO

Express Inc. Names Stewart Glendinning as Chief Executive Officer. He will take up his new role on September 15, the US retailer announced on Thursday.

The CEO-designate follows in the footsteps of CEO Tim Baxter, who has stepped down but will be available as needed to ensure a smooth transition.

Express CEO Mylle Mangum thanked Baxter for his work at the company and welcomed Glendinning. The new managing director is a “highly qualified leader” who will bring “new thinking” to the company and its strategies for profitable growth.

“Stewart shares the Board’s belief that further operational improvements and greater financial discipline are required to ensure Express is best positioned to create meaningful, sustainable value for shareholders,” said Mangum.

Glendinning comes from the consumer goods industry and brings more than 20 years of experience to Express. He has a proven track record in operations, financial management and building high-performing teams to further develop iconic brands, the statement said. Most recently, he worked as group president for ready meals at the US food company Tyson Foods.

“Express has an outstanding brand portfolio, a promising partnership with WHP and a best-in-class omnichannel platform,” said Glendinning. “I am confident that through a strong focus on execution and cost discipline, we can better leverage these differentiators, increase the company’s financial strength and create shareholder value.”
