Residents in the vicinity of Beukenplein in East were startled last night by a robbery at an ATM in a store. The damage is extensive: both to the shop and to the adjacent stairwell of an apartment complex.
The explosion happened around 2:20 am last night. Police are looking for two suspects who allegedly blew up the vending machine with explosives. They are believed to have fled with a black scooter. It is unknown if they stole anything.
The damage to the buildings is enormous. A police spokesman says the debris is up to the intersection. Several homes have been evacuated as a precaution. In addition to the police and fire brigade, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service (EOD) also visited the site of the incident for an investigation.
The emergency services have since been scaled down, but the police say that an investigation is still being carried out.
