The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service investigated a parked car at the shopping center in Diemen this evening. A “suspicious object” was found, a police spokesperson said. In the end it turned out not to be an explosive.
It seems that the object under the car, a Bentley Bentayga with a new price of more than 270,000 euros, was or was confirmed. Due to the investigation, part of Ouddiemerlaan was closed for at least four hours.
The explosives scout of the police was already alerted around 6 p.m. He eventually decided to call up the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service (EOD) of the military. The EOD bus, containing three soldiers, arrived at Ouddiemerlaan around 8.10 p.m.
About ten minutes later, the fire brigade was called for support. An ambulance and an ambulance manager have also been called. Residents were asked to enter around 8:30 p.m.
The car was approached with an explosive robot. An EOD officer in a bomb suit also put down a so-called jammer. This blocked Wi-Fi signals. The EOD officer then looked under the car and opened the doors.
Safe
By 9:30 p.m., the situation appeared to be safe. Two EOD officers without a bomb suit looked at the car again and took pictures. Then all the stuff was packed. A police truck tow was ready, but the car did not need to be towed. Presumably the owner moved the Bentley himself, because the car had disappeared at 10 p.m.
The police then announced via Twitter that it was not about ‘explosive material’. What it was remains unclear. “As part of the investigation, we will not say what kind of object it was,” a police spokesperson said when asked.
