The explosive that was found on a construction site in Breda turns out to be a very special example. So special that the EOD will not detonate it, but will keep it in its own collection.

It concerns a German drill grenade from the Second World War, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service said. So it’s meant to be practiced. And it is a unique item.

This German grenade could be used to practice shooting mortars. There was no gunpowder in it, so the grenade could be reused.

Normally, the EOD takes any explosives it finds to detonate them in a safe place. But that in this case did not happen. The grenade goes into the Defense Department’s own collection. It comes in the teaching cabinet, and can then be used for study and training.
