Explosive at Purmerend festival site, area temporarily cordoned off

An explosive was found in the Leeghwaterpark in Purmerend tonight. A festival is going on in the park, but according to the police, it can continue.

The report of the suspicious object was made around 7:45 p.m. The police, fire brigade and Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service (EOD) came to the scene. The area was immediately cordoned off so that it could be investigated exactly what was in the park.

The EOD was able to determine later that evening that it was indeed an explosive. “The suspicious package was found outside the festival grounds,” a police spokesman said. “This did not affect the staff and guests of the festival.”

A little after 10:30 p.m., the police reported that the explosive had been secured and taken away. The source of the flammable material is being investigated.
