Huge bang on Wednesday evening around 6:25 p.m. on Leibnizstrasse in Berlin-Charlottenburg.

There, an explosion destroyed an apartment on the second floor of a six-story residential and commercial building.

The resident was able to get himself to safety. He was not at home at the time of the explosion.

The fire department was able to quickly extinguish a subsequent fire. It is still unclear what caused the explosion.

Construction supervision is currently expected on site to clarify whether the house is still habitable. Leibnizstrasse and Kantstrasse towards the city center are currently closed.
