During excavation work on the Patronaatstraat in Made, two people were injured by a gas explosion around half past one on Thursday afternoon. A gas pipeline was hit during the digging, after which an explosion with fire occurred, according to a spokesperson for the Central and West Brabant Security Region.

The injured have burns. One of them was transferred to a general practitioner for treatment, the other was cooled on site by the fire brigade. Several ambulances and fire trucks were present. The area is still heavily cordoned off.

Neighbor: ‘Nothing noticed’
A local resident who lives meters from the hit gas pipeline says he did not notice the explosion. “I was at home when it happened and was allowed in and out of my house right after. I didn’t hear a bang either, so this surprises me quite a bit.”
