Explosion at Tilburg coffee shop where hand grenade was previously found

There was an explosion at a coffee shop on the Gasthuisring in Tilburg on Saturday morning around four o’clock. According to the police, the explosion was probably caused by the ignition of a flammable liquid.

No one was injured in the explosion. The explosion was reported by several witnesses. Before the explosion could be seen and heard, someone dressed in dark clothing and with a hood over his head would have thrown something towards the building. The person would then have run away in the direction of Jan Heijnsstraat.

After the explosion, a small fire broke out in the street. The fire was quickly extinguished by a bystander.

Hand grenade at the door
The explosion happened at coffee shop Caza, which was closed for three months last October by Tilburg mayor Weterings. This after a hand grenade was found in front of the building.

The mayor then spoke of an addition after shots were fired at the door of the coffee shop earlier that year. “Public order and safety are being compromised here to such an extent that we have to act,” said Weterings in October last year. The coffee shop had just reopened after the forced closure of three months.

Still looking for culprit
Police were still looking for the suspect in the area early Saturday morning. This without result. The case is being investigated by the detective.
