An explosive went off in a car on Smetanalaan in Assen last night. The police suspect that this was done deliberately.
The explosion near the car happened around 2am. Several police teams, supplemented by an explosives specialist, among others, investigated in and around a parking lot where the explosive went off. The Defense Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service was also present.
It was not disclosed what type of explosive it was. It is also unclear why the car would have been a target.
The police will continue their investigation today and are in the area of Smetanalaan. No suspects have been arrested yet.
