The Czech Cybersecurity Authority (NUKIB) warns against using the social media service Tiktok. The news agency reports about it Reuters.

Tiktok, owned by the Chinese company Bytedance, collects a considerable amount of data from its users. According to NUKIB, the application is a data security risk on the phones of those with connections to socially important services, and advises not to install this application.

– Such large-scale data collection is worrying because of China’s political structure. The maintenance of the application will ultimately end up in the hands of the ruling power of the Chinese administration, NUKIB says.

Tiktok denies the claims

Bytedance, the company that manages Tiktok, says the accusations are misinformation. According to them, the application is not used for espionage purposes. Representatives of the Chinese administration have said the same.

– External security experts have consistently stated that we do not collect more data than other applications. The Chinese state has no ownership of the application or the company that manages it, Tiktok’s representative told Reuters by email.

The authorities have restricted the use of the application

The European Parliament, Commission and Council have banned the use of the application on staff phones.

At the end of last month in the United States, a 30-day time limit was set to remove the application from all official devices.

Tiktok is an application especially popular with young people, whose popularity has grown in recent years.
