Vikersund (dpa) – For ski jumping veteran Severin Freund, the World Cup in Vikersund is the big highlight of the current winter.

“It’s ski flying in Norway, honestly, it does something different to you than the Olympic Games in Beijing,” said the 33-year-old about the upcoming event, which will take place in Vikersund on the world’s largest airfield. He was always someone “who – especially in terms of motivation – lived very emotionally,” said Freund.

The individual (Friday and Saturday) and team (Sunday) ski flying world champions will be crowned in Vikersund. The title fights also took place ten years ago at the facility in Norway, Freund has special memories of that. “That was the first major event in 2012 where I consciously went there with the feeling that I was in good shape. I don’t think anyone would have expected silver in the team at the time,” said Freund. This time defending champions Karl Geiger and Markus Eisenbichler are going into the World Cup as the most promising Germans.
