Application for a permit
You need different permits if you want to organize an outdoor event: one from the province and one from the municipality or perhaps several permits from several municipalities.
Suppose you organize an event that runs through several municipalities. Think of a bike ride or walking event, then you have to apply for a separate permit from each municipality.
Protected animals and plants may not be harmed by outdoor events, as stated in the Nature Conservation Act. As soon as you want to organize something close to or in a vulnerable Natura-2000 and nitrogen is released, for example through the supply of material or during the event itself, you must also apply for a nature permit. That is what the province is about.
Obtaining such a nature permit is a long process, then you are talking about at least six months, but two years also occur. A nitrogen calculation must be made with a special calculator, AERIUS. This indicates how much harmful nitrogen is deposited on nature during an event. But disturbances such as light and sound can also have an effect on animals, for example.
So you have to visit municipalities, provinces, but sometimes nature organizations also have additional conditions. That is why organizations of large events often call in a special consultancy to get all this done, but many small organizations do not have the money for that.
