The Ministry of Finance and the Foundation for (Equal) Worthy Recovery will today start an alternative route for accelerated settlement of additional damage from benefit parents. This new damage route was developed in collaboration with parents and independent personal injury experts. The route offers parents their own control and works on the basis of a damage framework with fixed amounts.

State Secretary De Vries of Benefits and Customs wrote this in a letter to the House of Representatives. The alternative damage route is intended for affected parents who still suffer additional damage after the comprehensive assessment. Until now, they can only contact the Actual Damage Commission (CWS), which makes a precise, individual damage calculation. However, many parents have indicated that they would like to have more control over the claims settlement process. That is why there will now be this alternative route in addition to the CWS route.

Parents are specifically invited to the starting phase of the alternative route. This is done in consultation with various organizations that currently assist affected parents, such as lawyers, care providers and municipalities. By inviting people with different types of damage, the organizations involved can best learn what is important in the process of emotional and financial recovery. People are also approached who have been waiting for a long time for their claim to be settled. The implementation lies with the recently established Stichting (Equal) Dignified Recovery.

The new claim route will be gradually scaled up to offer 300 to 1,000 parents the opportunity to take part in the coming months. The intention is that this damage route will be opened to all parents with additional damage early next year. The new route will be evaluated before the end of the year.

A parent chooses whether this route is suitable and always remains in control. Your own story is leading and is drawn up together with an independent writer. The damage amounts are determined on this basis. Further substantiation is only requested where necessary. The alternative route is concluded with a settlement agreement.
