Although the First World War had been going on for almost three years, the Americans did not appear on the battlefield until April 1917. What many do not know is that thanks to their arrival the war reaches its final conclusion.
“The information that has been documented is fragmentary. We try to tell the story here about the relief efforts, but also about the four American divisions that fought in Flanders during WWI,” says Stephan Lodewyck, director of In Flanders Fields.
