Exhibition about ‘eccentric’ Prince Karel in Raversijde
The Prince of Raversijde was a special figure, especially in the youngest years of his life. An outsider in the Royal House who played a remarkable political role, especially after the Second World War, as the Prince Regent who had to replace King Leopold Three.
Johnny Monteyne, Prince Charles connoisseur and collector: “It is a very special figure. 40 years after his death, it is an ideal time to put the prince back in the spotlight here in Raversijde. Especially to show how he lived here in Raversijde.”

Eccentric
The domain is now full of striking photos of how Prince Charles retired after his regency as replacement for the king. He became an artist and was known as an odd figure who had broken with Laeken. You will discover his paintings and there are still a striking number of remains preserved on his domain. Mathieu De Meyer, Provincial Domain Atlantikwall Raversyde: “Without him, the domain would never have existed. He came to live here and resisted until his death to have bunkers and trenches demolished. It is thanks to him that the Atlantikwall and the remains of WWI be preserved.”
Without Prince Karel, there may have been apartment buildings here too. The province is also looking for testimonials from people who still remember stories about the eccentric prince in Raversijde. The exhibition will run for more than 6 months and you can also visit the small dune house where the prince lived and painted.
